Gregg Howald

CEO, FreshWater Life

Gregg is one of the foremost experts in the field of ecosystem restoration, with 28 years of experience restoring more than 75 islands in 8 countries from the Caribbean to Japan, the Arctic to the deep tropics and the Galápagos Islands, and the Mediterranean. With a diverse technical background that includes ecotoxicology, his interest lies in ecological risk assessment and catalyzing the innovation of new, more effective, and safer conservation tools to facilitate larger, more complex, and currently unattainable conservation actions.

Gregg uses his training in social conflict transformation skills during highly controversial projects and public engagement processes to communicate the risks and benefits of projects and inform values-based decisions.

As a 20 year Kelowna resident, Gregg is always looking for ways to apply global knowledge and conservation successes and share them to better the Okanagan environment for the benefit of the biodiversity and people that call the region home.

Ryan Elizabeth Cope

Writer & Researcher, Seven In the Ocean

Ryan received her Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Marine Science from the University of Maine in 2010 and has been involved in work pertaining to water resources and sustainability, in many forms, ever since.

She first learned about the impacts of plastic pollution on our oceans after a research sailing expedition with S.E.A in 2008, crossing the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre from Hawaii to California. In 2012, she had the distinct privilege of working at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge, assisting with seabird banding, habitat restoration, and plastic pollution surveys.

Her specialty involves storytelling, and distilling complex scientific research into layman’s terms and disseminating that information to broad audiences both in-person and online.

This project is just that: a community endeavour bringing together multiple stakeholders from a range of sectors. Below you’ll find our current partners listed.
